Avon Police and Fire Respond After Child Falls From Roof

Police Chief Jeffrey Bukunt and Fire Chief Robert Spurr report that the Avon Police and Fire Departments responded to an incident in which a child fell off of a roof on West Main Street Friday morning.

At 11:19 a.m. today, a passing motorist on West Main Street in Avon notified the Avon Police Department via phone that she observed what appeared to be a young child sitting on a second story roof at 661 W. Main St.

Avon police officers, along with members of the Avon Fire Department, responded and learned that the child had been located in the yard outside the address after falling from the roof and was carried back into an apartment, prior to the arrival of first responders, by an adult who was visiting the resident.

The child, a 3-year-old girl, was examined on scene by members of the Avon Fire Department and Stoughton Fire Department. She was subsequently transported by Stoughton Ambulance to Boston Medical Center. At this time, her injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the child had been in the care of an adult babysitter along with four other children between the ages of three and seven. A second adult was in the apartment at the time. All children have been reunited with their parents and an investigation is ongoing by members of the Avon Police Department and the Department of Children and Families.
